The master closet/dressing room design rages on. After much debate and measuring, I gave up on the idea of having closed storage in there. The Pax wardrobe from IKEA seemed to hold so much promise. Especially when you consider that you can do this to it. Sadly the Pax is 93" tall and I've only got 78" to work with in there before the ceiling starts to slant. So with that, I settled on using the Container Store's elfa system. I got my butt in gear and designed the space in time to take advantage of their awesome, once a year 30% off sale.
My attempted sketches at what I want for each wall (please keep in mind I draw like a 4th grader.)
On his side, the leaning full length mirror hides the Fraggle Rock door.
On my side, Fraggle Rock ends up behind my long hanging section. I also was able to create a bit of a vanity space by extending a solid shelf 24" over 1/2 of the bank of drawers I have. Must find a pretty vintage mirror for that space.
On the wall opposite the window, I'd like to do floor to ceiling shelving for shoes. This was going to be crazy expensive to do through the Container Store, sale or no sale, so we'll be Home Depoting this part of the project.
Here's what that quantity of elfa looks like. I had my doubts that it would all fit in the car.
But with a bit of Jenga-like precision, it all fit quite snuggly!Knox is very bored by all this activity and doesn't understand why there's a mountain of elfa in the car (don't worry, I didn't stack anything around him!)
So with the storage solutions set, I started to day dream about the much more fun parts of the room. I came to the realization that, like it or not, the open storage and all our clothes will be the main visual element in the room. That means despite really wanting a fun wallpaper to jazz things up in there, I think I need to keep most of the elements fairly neutral. But that's another post for another day!
