Waking Up after a Night Out

We all have nights where we let things go a bit out of hand. A couple of cocktails too many and we're paying for it the next day. There are plenty of old wives tales about how to beat the handover blues such as bizarre blended concoctions, "Hair of the Dog that Bit Ya" and pain killers. For me, I've always found that they number one cure is water.

Operation Hydration!
Thats right, simple H2O. I try to drink a big glass of water before I got to bed after a night out and get plenty of sleep. I make sure to drink plenty of water the next day as well. Alcohol dehydrates you, as do many of the caffeine mixers that we use. Combine that with dancing and you've got yourself one dehydrated dancing queen.

I also try to do something active that day. I may feel sluggish and tired, but once I get going I'll be better. Getting the blood pumping almost seems to dust all the cobwebs out of my brain and clear everything out. Its not easy convincing myself to do it, but its worth it.

But sometimes even water and exercice can't help you pull yourself together and thats when a little bit of creative skin care and makeup can really help. A few weeks ago I came across this great video by the fantastic celebrity makeup artist, Lisa Eldridge.

Lisa posts informative how-to videos on her website, that even a makeup novice such as myself can follow. Mind you, I don't have the budget or the interest in purchasing all the products that she uses, but I love seeing what she does and then working with what I have to mimic those results (not always successfully).

Basically, after a late night out, I stick to five rules:
1) Operation Hydration: Drink plenty of water
2) Sleep as much as you can.
3) Try to do something active.
4) Take care of your skin: Wash. Moisturize. Stick to light makeup.
5) Volunteer to be the designated driver next time :)

What is your hangover cure?
