Kartell Bourgie lamp authentic vs knockoff

On Friday the Home Goods gods smiled down on me as I took a spin through the lamp aisle at my local store. I came around the corner and was greeted by this site - what appeared to be a Kartell Bourgie lamp knock off.

I've always loved the sexy curves of the Bourgie lamp and the reinterpretation of such a traditional shape in a super modern material. The crystal clear polycarbonate one sits on the corner of my desk and makes me happy every time I see it.

So when I came across the black one at Home Goods, I was totally intrigued by whether or not I could tell it apart from the real thing I had at home. Plus...to be perfectly honest, it was $129 and I couldn't leave it there knowing how much I'd paid for my Bourgie a few years back.

So let's take a closer look at the real deal, shall we?

Now let's take a look at my Home Goods Bourgie.

But there's definitely something missing.

When you see them side by side, the knock off is quite convincing, I must say. Though it is about 2" taller than the real thing. The material on the authentic Bourgie feels a bit more substantial too. It's thicker and shinier. But you can't really tell any of that in the photo!

What do you think? Would you settle for the knock off? I might try to see if I can find another one at the other two Home Goods near me and create a matching pair. I have really irrational issues with single lamps...I guess I just like the symmetry of a pair of lamps. But for now, this single will live in the living room, bringing a bit of style to the campaign dresser I've been neglecting.
