With some of the more major elements coming together in the nursery, I've started to think about art for the walls in the room (which by the way are looking FABULOUS now that they've been painted. Pic coming soon!)
Some major pieces that have been purchased and are awaiting shipping/hanging include the Jonathan Adler giraffe sconces that you are surely tired of hearing me talk about (still no word on when they're shipping...sadness) and an over-sized abacus that adds a fun graphic & colorful punch to the room. The plan is to hang both of these over the changing table like so:
2 of the other 4 walls are dominated by a large window and closet. There is some space to the left of the window for a couple of bookshelves to hold mementos/keepsakes, etc and this guy which is too cute for words:

On the closet wall there is some space for something else in the way of art or wall-mounted bookcase (tbd). That really only leaves the main wall in the room - the one behind the crib and the first wall you see when you walk in.
As a reminder, from the room layout this wall is dominated by the crib and nursing "station" (glider, lamp, side table, ottoman). I have 3 of these frames from Pottery Barn that I'm planning to hang vertically on that wall to the right of the crib.

After going around and around on the mobile issue, I'm 99% positive that I'm not going to get one. I can't find anything all that cute and everyone tells me it's a limited engagement item anyway (has to be removed when Baby is big enough to reach up and grab it). Having said that, I still reserve the right to buy one if I find something perfect but it's not looking promising.
So that leaves a great big, empty wall in the room. I don't want to hang anything too significant over the crib for fear that it could come crashing down on Baby, but it feels wrong not to hang anything. And then I saw this post on OhDeeDoh and am smitten with that cute alphabet flash card arrangement.
Cute right? I love the colors, that they aren't framed so they pose no falling danger to baby, and that they're all animal related & educational. I could string up some yellow yarn and use some baby wooden clothespins that I have to arrange them (though I would have to keep them high enough so that they're out of reach of curious hands!)
Awesome news: I can buy them all on Etsy from artist Jenn Ski.
Not so awesome news: Each individual print is $14. I think you're supposed to just spell out your kid's name or something so a normal person would only be investing in 4-5 of these prints. Very abnormal me wants the entire alphabet ($14 x 26 = $364...now you see my dilemma?)
Artist has been contacted to see if there's any kind of "crazy person bulk discount". Stay tuned.
