A couple of weeks ago while watching the Nate Berkus Show, I spotted a chest in the background that looked interesting. I hit rewind on the DVR and snapped this pic.
Yes, this is an iPhone picture of my TV screen. Yes I am aware that it is ridiculous to do this.
As an aside, don't you wonder how great it must be to be able to watch a TV show and not be distracted by the furnishings and accessories on the set? I know there are others of you out there coveting things like the Modern Family pillows, etc. C'mon, fess up.

But back to that Nake Berkus chest. A few days later on one of my many virtual "aisle wandering" trips through eBay I came across this:

Weird right?!?! This appears to be the exact same piece. Limed oak, selling for $1,200 on eBay.
Don't you think all you'd need is a flat front dresser, some 1" wood trim and wood glue to recreate this look? The 3 drawer Malm dresser from IKEA would be a good starting point.
You could frame the top in the same 1" trim to make a spot for the mirrored top.
Now I know it's not exactly the same thing (the original also comes in a while lacquer finish which I bet is hot!) but for $80 for the dresser, under $5 in trim and a $30 custom cut mirror, you've got yourself a designer-ish piece for 1/10th the cost of the original. LOVE THAT!
Let's file this under "things I might do at a later date when I have more time". When will that be exactly?
