Did you see the spread on designer Amy Meier's home office in the latest BHG. I love the combination of colors and textures throughout this small space. Some rough woods, some painted surfaces, some metal. Somehow it all works. Amy mentions her formula for the right mix of finishes: “50 percent slick white, 25 percent woven baskets, and 25 percent brushed metal.” I think I need to tattoo this formula on my hand or something because it's definitely perfection in this space.
I love how she turned this small corner of their living room into a totally functional home office.
Here's another view of the same space from Amy's blog. I love seeing how the space has evolved and the little tweaks she's made to the space. A 5x5 IKEA Expedit seems to be a staple in the space and provides the perfect open & closed storage solution. I also spy the Ekby shelves with bjarnum brackets on the wall there just like I used in Knox's nursery. But without a doubt my favorite thing in this space is that brass sconce in the corner in the BHG spread. I definitely prefer it to the desk lamp she started out with.

The sconce is of course from my favorite lighting resource ever - Circa Lighting. Here it is.
It comes in burnished brass (as shown) and antique nickel and polished nickel. You can also get the shade in metal (as shown) glass or something called "silk collar with frill". How very Elizabethan! I wonder what that looks like. I for one like it just as is (though I bet the polished nickel would be gorgeous too). It's described as a "double swing arm" which is great for extending way out over a space. I also love that desk and the industrial edge it adds to the room. It's from Dovetail Furniture and sadly is to the trade only.
Here's the view of the space from the desk. Notice how she repeats the fabric pattern on the upholstered desk chair in the curtain panels. A great little trick for pulling a space together and making it all feel coordinated.
