Raddest bike basket

Holy smokes! This minimal bike basket is awesome. San Francisco designer Feris Elmasu attached four stretchy straps to bent wood, which will hold down anything from a laptop to a six pack of beer. Thumbs up.

Have a breezy weekend

Oh boy, it was a short week for me but it proved to be a busy one as well. Balazs and I are looking forward to apple pancakes and Curb Your Enthusiasm tonight. Biking Style: Going Dutch (and Danish)

Since the weather is pretty lovely lately, I've been cycling up a storm. It feels super refreshing and strangely freeing to spin the wheels about, doesn't it? Anyhow, last night while catching up on my reading I spotted a fun little article about Dutch and Danish cycling culture. Both are pretty similar and it's totally jaw dropping to think that more than third of the Netherlands' population commutes by bike at all times. Inspiring, isn’t it? It’s like their second nature. The fun think is that till now I couldn’t really make a difference between Danish and Dutch biking style but after reading the article I noticed that Danish bikers are a bit more chic, while Dutch are funkier - nevertheless I adore them both! They are awesome.

Lovelies, how do you commute? By car, subway (metro), do you walk or bike or maybe travel by bus? I mostly walk or bike everywhere. (And we don't own a car as we live downtown - everything is pretty close and easily accessible).

Fun Fact: The Dutch word for bicycle is fiets (pronounced "feets") and in Amsterdam there are much more bikers than drivers on the streets.

A wireless controller on your handlebars lets you clearly signal to cars when you're turning right, left or stopping, without taking your hands off the handlebars. I'd love to use this while riding around New York. It's just a prototype right now, but here's hoping this rad backpack is made and sold sometime soon.

NYC: The metropolitan bicycle ride with a bit of style

Crikey! Just little over two Saturdays ago a group of awesome people took to the streets of Greenwich Village for the 3rd Annual Tweed Run in New York City. The metropolitan bicycle ride with a bit of style was full of attractions including live music, dancing, fun prizes, English tea and delicious scones throughout the day. Each participant was encouraged to wear their best British cycling gear which included the always elegant tweeds, posh hats, long socks, cycling skirts and capes for the ladies or oh-so stylish bow ties/cravats for the gentlemen. They even had a best moustache competition!

Darlings, doesn’t that sound like fun? I’d love to dress up and make my mom proud! Did you take part? Would you? xo

Bicycling - Parisian-style

The other day I spotted a brilliant article by Laura Neilson about how to look like a true Parisian while cycling no matter where you are. It’s a fact that French ladies have the je ne sais quoi quality mastered to perfection. They always look understatedly-snazzy with au naturel-messy hair and totally effortless. So here are a few tips to French-biking-perfection I love:

* Always wear normal clothes while biking. For French girls it's just a form of transportation not a type of exercise. (No sweatpants or sneakers required).

* Cute ballerina flats & heels are a must for cycling in style.

* Old-school style cruisers are the IT bicycles right now - their build makes them ideal for riding in a skirt.

* Baskets are essential and mostly attached in the front. French girls don't just carry their baguettes and groceries in them: they also toss in their bags.

 *And of course do not forget to wear tons of layers in neutral colours for those cold windy days and let your hair flow in the wind.
