New Vintage Finds in the Etsy Shop

I've added a few super cute finds to the Etsy shop.

My gold cast iron crown wearing birds are back by popular demand!  The original lot sold in just a few days and many of you emailed looking for them so I was really excited when I found more.

If the crowns aren't your thing, these little guys are slightly more delicate but still sparkly and adorable.

A gilded toad prince!  Wouldn't he be so cute in a little girl's fairy tale inspired room?

Some really pretty vintage tin toys in amazing condition. I love the colors on these.  These are the kinds of finishing touches that are perfect styling accessories in a little one's room!

New Vintage Additions to the Etsy Shop

I've added a bunch of recent vintage finds to my Etsy shop.  Some of these things I've been saving up for a while but just never got around to listing and/or have been debating keeping for myself.  But I'm finally coming to terms that I can't keep it all!

I LOVE these adorable gilded cast iron birds.  They are so precious with their little crowns and have a great  metallic shine to them. Adorable finishing touch to any bookshelf.

This moose hook is perfect amounts quirky, glam and functional.  It's also gilded cast iron.

This collection of cast iron vintage bi-plane wall hangings were the original inspiration behind my Art for Boys: Bomber Planes art prints.  They are from 1975 and in such amazing condition.  I love the colors and the little pilots with scarves blowing in the wind!  So perfect for a little boy's room.

A great bronze vintage boat propeller.  It would be so great as a unique accessory on a bookshelf or on your coffee table.

...or in a little man's nautical/pirate themed room like this one from the recent PB Kids catalog.

Sweet little vintage brass rocking horse.  He's in perfect condition - not a tarnish spot on him!

Finally, just in time for Easter, this darling little vintage brass bunny. He's petite and cute as can be.

I have a few more things to list later in the week including some vintage tin toys.  Hope you find something you like!

Things you should know about Vol. 3

Random things I feel the need to share with you all...

Loving the colors and pattern on this outdoor chair cushion from Kirkland's.  And only $16.99!  Comes in settee size too.

My love for otomi textiles is well documented at this point.  But seeing this lovely fabric as a pouf took my breath away.

There's a whole mess of new rugs out that I love.  This one from West Elm is my fave.  It's just ethnic enough while still being neutral.  Love that.

Also really loving this simple stripe from Ballard Designs.

I might need to get the string art party started again and make a heart.  A string art string heart...
  I love it.

Pretty sure Knox needs 1 (or 6) of these insanely cute felted wool Easter chicks in his basket this year.

Or maybe a nest of them.  AAAAAAH!!!  The cuteness!!  It hurts my eyes!

Birds!  Everywhere birds!  I need some pink flamingo in my life and this pillow should just about satisfy that need.

Cute rocking bird from West Elm.  I want to put it on a shelf in a baby's room.

Love this art.  Reminds me of Boston's Back Bay (though I don't remember it being quite so colorful.)

Lots of people ask me about what to do with their bedroom windows when their headboards extend past the allotted "headboard between windows space".  You could push all the fabric to one side and swag it of course but doesn't this layered effect look so much richer?  Love this look.

What nuggets of greatness have you come across lately?

Trendspotting: Arrows on the Brain

I don't know if it's the impending Hunger Games movie release or what but I've been spotting arrows everywhere lately - in home decor, in fashion and in textiles.  Here's just a few of the goodies I've found and can't stop thinking about.

Custom String Art Plaques now in the Etsy shop!

I was so totally overwhelmed by the response to my string art tutorial!  A great big THANK YOU to all of you who Pinned, Facebooked and commented on my post.   I love when my nutty ideas actually come out as I envision them and I love even more when I've inspired others to try something they never would have considered.  That's always my goal with my DIY tutorial posts - to provide detailed instructions, resources and inspiration to get you creating things!

But I've come to accept that DIY projects just aren't for everyone.  I heard from quite a few of you who loved the idea of a string art piece but would much rather buy one than make one.

So for a limited time, I've decided to offer some custom string art plaques in my Etsy shop.  Unlike my dream piece that was done on cork (which would be crazy expensive to ship), the pieces in my Etsy shop are on wood plaques measuring 12.5" x 16.25".  Several different customization options are available including plaque color, string color and font.

Each piece sells for $149 + shipping.

Happy Birthday to Me (and savings for you!)

It's my birthday weekend!  I'm turning 35 on Sunday. Ugh...just threw up a little.

I'm trying not to focus on the number and just be thankful for another year of wisdom and life with my loved ones.

Thru the long weekend, I'm offering 35% off everything in my Etsy shop.  If you've had your eye on anything, now would be the time to place your order as this is the biggest sale to date! Use code "HAPPY35" to receive your discount.

Have a wonderful weekend! See you back here on Tuesday.

Some things you should know about

I'm in my usual post-Super Bowl Sunday funk - attributable largely to the the approximately 37 pounds of queso I ingested but more specifically because my New England Patriots lost in a HEART WRENCHING game.  Seriously, I still feel sick.  Can't talk about it...ugh.

I need the day to recover.  In the meantime, I'm sharing some of my favorite finds and deals from around the web.

World Market has these great ikat patterned shower curtains right now. Even if you don't need a splash of ikat in your bathroom, the pattern and colors would make for some great throw pillows.  Or you could always try my favorite trick and turn them into window draperies.

I got Knox these shoes last week and he's worn them every day since.  He loves them and I think they're pretty hysterical myself.

Fun, purple drapery panels on sale at ZGallerie for $39.99 (96" length.)

I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of Kirkland's but lately they've become my go-to place for interesting and inexpensive side tables.  Two of my favorites right now (the second one I just used in a nursery inspiration board coming up this week!)

I just got this book for Knox and the illustration are so wonderful, I almost want to put it away for framing.  Each page is a letter of the alphabet with a really fun image to accompany it.  If you don't want to destroy the whole book by framing its pages, the book jacket that accompanies it can be reversed and opened to reveal a colorful alphabet poster that has all 26 letters and their corresponding illustrations.  LOVE.

Say what??  A pinstripe chesterfield at Tuesday Morning of all places?  Crafted right here in North Carolina!

You know I am loving some metal sconces these days. This 3 light fixture in polished nickel is gorgeous for a bathroom and really reasonable at $159.

This room makes me happy.  The cool art on the wall is from here for $99.

I'm kind of obsessed with this vintage Turkish kilim rug on eBay. The colors are just perfect.  It's small (roughly 5'x2.5') but it could look really GREAT to reupholster a bench don't you think?

And lastly, Michael Fassbender.

Period.  End of story.  No additional description required.

Art for Boys! Trains

Today I am FINALLY launching my fourth installment in my Art for Boys series over on Etsy - TRAINS!!  I feel like I've been working on these forever (6 months to be exact!) but I'm really happy with how they turned out.  As with all my art, my goal is to create something that both kids AND parents will like.

There are 11 different illustrations in the series all inspired by vintage trains.  They are sized to fit into a standard 8"x10" frame.  I love the way they look paired with a very modern and clean frame like the IKEA Ribba.  Each train is available for individual purchase for $11 or in a set of 3, 4, 6 or 8.

I know lots of little boys who are totally crazy for trains so I hope these will bring just the right finishing touch to their rooms!

Etsy Love: Orange Studio by Helen Dardik

I am currently obsessed with EVERY.SINGLE.THING in this etsy shop.

I think adorably whimsical Adam & Eve in the Love Garden print might just be my favorite though.

The Best of Etsy: High Street Market

In case you missed my announcement, all this week I'll be featuring my favorite Etsy shops. From baby gear to jewelry, pillows to art, I'm sharing all the shops I've been "favorite-ing" for over a year. I hope throughout the course of the week you discover a few new gems and share a few also!

best-of-etsy-header

I am nothing if not a treasure hunter.  I love to wake up early on a Saturday morning and head to the flea market with nothing in particular in mind just to see what I might find.  But sometimes you actually are looking for that something.  Maybe you need to finish off styling some bookshelves.  Or you need that one, special serving piece for a party.  Or just the right lamp for an end table.

When I find myself in these situations, my first stop is always HighStreetMarket.  This impeccably curated shop is full of the best vintage finds.  Kelly has done the hunting so you don't have to.  I've bought several pieces from her, including one of my favorite design details in Knox's nursery, these fantastic vintage brass elephant hooks.  Once a year she unloads all her favorite vintage baby finds in her annual Baby Sale.  Trust me, if you're expecting a little one, it's worth waiting for and stalking.  Bonus:  Everything ships beautifully and safely packaged so you can shop for glassware and other breakables with confidence.

I'm always looking for new Etsy shops to peruse! What's your favorite Etsy shop for unique vintage finds?
